Jackie Clements: Learnings from Travels

From travelling I have learned that there is more that connects than separates us.

Drawn to cultures other than her own, Jackie Clements has traveled mostly solo for a combined eight years in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe, indulging her passion for meeting and photographing people she encounters, capturing moments in their everyday lives and celebrations, and the environments in which they live. Here she shares with us why she loves to travel:

I love to travel, with an urge to explore cultures different to my own, to see other ways of life, especially non-Western. Travelling can open our eyes and hearts to the incredible array of human experience – people of the world celebrate a multitude of festivals and faiths, eat an incredible variety of cuisines, and live in an amazing array of architecture and landscapes.

Among our differences, however, we find there are common threads between us. We have similar goals - health and happiness, security and prosperity, friends and family around us. We laugh, love, grieve our losses. From travelling I have learned that there is more that connects than separates us. Meeting and photographing people, capturing moments in their everyday lives and celebrations, and the environments in which they live is my passion.

Jackie is based in Melbourne, Australia. She attended our block print workshop in January 2017. You can find her online at: http://www.jackieclementsphotography.com/
